Publications, Conferences, and Interviews, Oh My!

  • by

In the fall of 2022, I had the great joy of reading my poetry at the Future of the Catholic Literary Imagination Conference on a panel representing students of the University of St. Thomas MFA in Creative Writing program. I was honored to read with Paul Pastor, Dorian Speed, and Seth Wiek. Program Director James Matthew Wilson moderated the event. I enthusiastically recommend that you keep an eye on the work of these exceptional writers.

I had the honor of interviewing James Matthew Wilson about the UST MFA program for the 2023 issue of Presence Journal. This fascinating interview covers everything from our creative calling as embodied souls in a material world, to hotly debated questions of prosody, to the expansive call of the Catholic writer.

Christianity and Literature published my book review of Laura Reece Hogan‘s mystical poetry collection Litany of Flights (Paraclete Poetry). My sonnet “U. S. Army Issue Portable Altar” appeared in the recent issue of Modern Age. Two of my poems will be featured on the Lydwine Podcast, one on August 25 and another later this fall. My review of Timothy Bartel‘s A Crown for Abba Moses (Solum Literary Press) is forthcoming in Dappled Things, and an article I wrote on Augustine’s Confessions is forthcoming on the Deep Down Things blog.

It was my great joy to direct the Catholic Literary Arts High School Writers Institute last summer at the University of St. Thomas in Houston. The exceptional faculty, stellar guest author James Matthew Wilson, caring staff, and bright students made the week an incredible, blessed experience.

In my educational career, I recently begun a few years of service as the English Department Chair of Strake Jesuit College Preparatory. I’ll be working with my inspiring, professional, master educator colleagues to lead our young men to use their gifts for the greater glory of God. Please pray for our students and families!
